Five cleaning hacks that will change the way you clean

Dura-Shine Clean Marketing - Sunday, March 27, 2016
At Dura-Shine Clean, we LOVE cleaning! But, we know that is not the case for everybody — in fact, cleaning is a chore. It’s fun when it’s all done and you can sit back and soak all the cleanliness in. But we researched some awesome cleaning hacks that will make cleaning less of a chore and make it easier for everybody! These hacks come unhandy now that spring is here and you want to get your home ready for a new, fresh season full of family gatherings.

Hack Number One: Your Dishwasher is Your Best Friend

No, seriously. If you have one in your home, you can use your dishwasher to clean almost anything! You know those kid’s tour full of sticky finger residue? Pop them in there for a clean! Dirt brushes? Rain boots? Muddy garden tools? Dog toys? Yes, you can even clean those in there. Dishwashers are an extremely versatile appliance with some surprising uses you probably never even thought about. Make your life easier by mass cleaning regular household items that are well overdue for a clean. For handy list of things you can clean in your dishwasher, go here.

Hack Number Two: The Washing Machine and Stuffed Animal Cleaning Hack

This one might not come as much of a surprise, but it’s still extremely handy. If you have kids, then you probably have stuffed animals, rag dolls, and teddy bears…and then you have dust, and sticky baby fingers and mouths that just want to bite on things. It’s a recipe for, well…dirty stuffed animals and a reservoir of germs. In this case, place all you stuffed animals into a mesh bag and throw them into the washing machine on no-spin. Now you have germ-free almost brand new stuffed toys!

Hack Number Three: Clean Hard Water Stains with Vinegar

Have you ever tried to remove water stains? Not only are they an eye sore but they’re almost impossible to get rid of! The magic wand here is white vinegar! Just soak a few paper goals in white vinegar and place them over the water stains that appear on your faucet, your bathtub or other surfaces to remove the stains. Leave for about an hour and voila! All gone! It’s almost like magic.

Hack Number Four: The Carpet Squeegee Hack
Your carpet is a place of constant activity, and although running a good vacuum will remove a lot of the dust and fine particles in the surface, it will not remove hairs and fur that have tangled themselves into the carpet fibers. For that reason, a squeegee is the trusted solution. Edged with rubber, the squeegee glides along effortlessly above the carpet, creating static electricity that draws out the hair and fur from the carpet. You won’t believe how much hair will come out!

Hack Number Five: Use Packing Tape of Lint Roller as Duster

This hack is a no-brainer! Usually when cleaning we tend to ignore our lampshades, inside of drawers, speakers, and other places with small crevices or fabric. They’re also extremely difficult to approach with just a regular duster. That is where tape or a lint roller come in handy. A strong adhesive grabs even the smaller first from fabric and small crevices. Just press the adhesive into the service and pull back reveal all the dirt, crumbs, and grime. It really is that easy!

We hope these easy, yet useful cleaning hacks save you time and give you some much-needed relaxation! Are you looking to relax more this spring and summer and focus on the things that bring you joy, like time spent outside or making memories with your loved ones? Then give us a call! Dura-Shine Clean is truly passionate not only about cleaning but about our clients reclaiming their valuable time!

Safe and Natural Residential and Commercial Cleaning Tri-Cities, WA

Dura-Shine Clean Marketing - Monday, September 08, 2014

As the leading cleaning company in the Tri-Cities, WA our team at Dura-Shine Clean is committed to sustainability, green living and healthy families. We believe there are too many people using toxic ingredients in their cleaning products. Our commitment to sustainability means we use eco-friendly and non-toxic cleaning products that are both good to the environment and safe for our clients. Homeowners, especially families with young children worry about what is being used to clean their home. Business owners also want to maintain safe facilities for their clients and their employees. We also deeply care about the safety of our cleaning team.

Eco-friendly and safe cleaning products like Procter & Gamble and Spartan Chemical source only the safest components in their products. What we appreciate about the products we use is that both Procter & Gamble and Spartan Chemicals provide Safety Data sheets detailing the safety rating on every product they make. This ensures that cleaners who buy their line of eco-friendly household cleaners have the necessary information at hand to make a safe purchase for their clients.

According to environmental experts, the average household contains 62 toxic chemicals (source). Run-of-the-mill household cleaners contain aggressive chemicals like ammonia, sodium hydroxide, and 2-butoxyethanol, which appears in popular multi purpose cleaners. These chemicals can appear in window washers, spot cleaners, oven cleaners and more.

They pose no risk in small amounts, but if used constantly overtime they may pose serious health risks. As for our cleaning process, one of the things we do is ensure that all windows remain open during cleaning so the air can circulate from the outside in, essentially reducing any harmful fumes that might be in the air.

Hiring professional cleaners means you don’t have to worry about what is in your cleaning products, we do the worrying for you. When we’re not there to lend a hand, however, these safe and all-natural cleaning solutions and green cleaning tips we’ll get the job done in the safest way possible:

1) Glass and Mirror Cleaning

Commercial polishing agents and window cleaners contain ammonia. It’s a powerful irritant, and those with constant exposure to ammonia (when inhaled) have higher risk of developing chronic bronchitis and asthma. This is especially harmful to the elderly and people with asthma. Instead of window cleaners use 4 tablespoons of lemon juice mixed with half a gallon of water. Alternatively, use some rubbing alcohol and witch hazel.

2) Furniture Shine

Furniture polishing cleaners are made up of petroleum distillates and solvents, both of which are hazardous when ingested. Be wary of keeping these around the house if you have young children. A good substitute is a mix of two parts olive oil with one part lemon juice and rub it against furniture using a soft fiber cloth.

3) Oven and Bathroom Cleaners, and Mildew Removers

Some of these cleaners contain chlorine or sodium hydroxide. Chlorine can be a respiratory irritant at an acute level, and can be a serious thyroid disrupter (source). Sodium Hydroxide is corrosive and can cause serious burns. Instead use baking soda or vinegar to clean things like toilet bowls or remove mildew and clean grime.
