Thanksgiving Dish & Drink Pairing

Marketing Team - Monday, November 21, 2016

When thinking about Thanksgiving, we have a lot of reasons to be thankful! Life, good health, living in a wonderful community, family, friends, the list could go on and on!  Here at Dura-Shine Clean, we know first-hand how crazy family dinners are, especially “BIG” family dinners like Thanksgiving.

Try something different this Thanksgiving by pair your drinks with dinner…. No matter what you drink, whether its wine, beer, cider or root beer floats, everything tastes better when paired properly.

Here is a chart you can follow to help you pair your meal. Let us know what your favorite pairings were!

Add A Washington Twist:
We are lucky to live in this area that has so many wines and craft beers! Have a true Washington Thanksgiving by pairing your food with local drinks instead!

After the Meal:
The worst part of big dinners is clean up!  No one likes to do the dishes, or clear the table. It’s funny to watch how fast the entire family can disappear or fall asleep at the exact moment that clean up starts.

It’s probably because no one wants to accept responsibility for the drink/food spills on Grandma’s lace table cloth or the white carpet!

For all stains the important thing is to get on it ASAP, the sooner the better, and remember to blot not rub or scrub (this only squishes the stain in worse). If the stains are pesky and refuse treatment, or if your home needs a thorough post-Thanksgiving clean, give us a call!

Important Organization Ideas For Your Home

Dura-Shine Clean Marketing - Thursday, April 07, 2016
Ok, we know. Organizing can be a hassle, but it can also transform your home life if you have a system in place and follow it. Knowing what goes where is only the first part, but maintaining a system that works for you and your family is also integral to home keeping. At Dura-Shine clean we love improving and facilitating the home life balance many of our clients crave. Our main goal (apart from following our passion for cleaning) is to make sure our clients get to enjoy the lives they built while we do the cleaning. We want to present you with some really handy organizing tips that will forever change the way you look at your home space. Read on!

Dollar Store Stacking Bins Are your Best Friends
We love these super versatile stacking bins from the Dollar Store. These are perfect for organizing toiletries, bathroom supplies, and small miscellaneous items. These bins are handy for school, craft rooms and even office supplies. They nest for some compact storage solutions.

A systematic approach to organizing files and important paperwork
The amount of paperwork a household generates is staggering. From important announcements and agendas from school, to bills, to important tax information to health records and more. It’s important to have a file system that works for you. For things like family health records, school work, and yearly tax filings keep in a file bin, you can color code so it’s easier to decipher what exactly is inside each file. Moreover, don’t just dump papers in a filing system and forget about them forever. Use an actionable category system to sort items you have to read, those you have to file, those you have to respond to, and those that require immediate action. This can be kept near your desk or where you spend most of your time.

Organize your pantry

Pantries are a big part of every home — but you don’t have to have a big one to make it work for you and keep it organized and simplified. The rule of thumb is to toss canned goods, cereal and rice you haven’t used after a year, peanut butter after six months and pasta is good up to two years, then a it’s a good idea to toss it. Do you have some old magazine holders laying around? You can use these really versatile items to hold your aluminum foil, plastic wrap, and wax papers. You can even use them to easily stack your canned goods. Shoe organizers are also great for hanging it on the back of the pantry door to organize kid’s snacks, spize mixes, food packets, and other condiments.

Labels, labels everywhere

Labeling your storage and organization boxes is important part of the process. Knowing where everything is so you don’t have to dig through boxes of stuff to find that one small item. Label decorations by holiday or season as well as seasonal sporting goods for summer and winter as well as camping gear. These are things that you obviously don’t need throughout the year, but need handy when you’ve got an upcoming trip.

Donate!!
If you haven’t used an item in more than a year and don’t foresee yourself using it in the future, there is no reason to store it! Donate it it to your local shelter, or Goodwill where they will be better put to use. This can be toys and clothes your kids have outgrown, maternity clothes, furniture and more.

Your Tri-Cities, WA cleaners believe life is meant to be lived to your fullest and a happy home makes for a happy family. We hope you enjoy your Spring season, and if you need a little help you can always count on Dura-Shine Clean!

Five cleaning hacks that will change the way you clean

Dura-Shine Clean Marketing - Sunday, March 27, 2016
At Dura-Shine Clean, we LOVE cleaning! But, we know that is not the case for everybody — in fact, cleaning is a chore. It’s fun when it’s all done and you can sit back and soak all the cleanliness in. But we researched some awesome cleaning hacks that will make cleaning less of a chore and make it easier for everybody! These hacks come unhandy now that spring is here and you want to get your home ready for a new, fresh season full of family gatherings.

Hack Number One: Your Dishwasher is Your Best Friend

No, seriously. If you have one in your home, you can use your dishwasher to clean almost anything! You know those kid’s tour full of sticky finger residue? Pop them in there for a clean! Dirt brushes? Rain boots? Muddy garden tools? Dog toys? Yes, you can even clean those in there. Dishwashers are an extremely versatile appliance with some surprising uses you probably never even thought about. Make your life easier by mass cleaning regular household items that are well overdue for a clean. For handy list of things you can clean in your dishwasher, go here.

Hack Number Two: The Washing Machine and Stuffed Animal Cleaning Hack

This one might not come as much of a surprise, but it’s still extremely handy. If you have kids, then you probably have stuffed animals, rag dolls, and teddy bears…and then you have dust, and sticky baby fingers and mouths that just want to bite on things. It’s a recipe for, well…dirty stuffed animals and a reservoir of germs. In this case, place all you stuffed animals into a mesh bag and throw them into the washing machine on no-spin. Now you have germ-free almost brand new stuffed toys!

Hack Number Three: Clean Hard Water Stains with Vinegar

Have you ever tried to remove water stains? Not only are they an eye sore but they’re almost impossible to get rid of! The magic wand here is white vinegar! Just soak a few paper goals in white vinegar and place them over the water stains that appear on your faucet, your bathtub or other surfaces to remove the stains. Leave for about an hour and voila! All gone! It’s almost like magic.

Hack Number Four: The Carpet Squeegee Hack
Your carpet is a place of constant activity, and although running a good vacuum will remove a lot of the dust and fine particles in the surface, it will not remove hairs and fur that have tangled themselves into the carpet fibers. For that reason, a squeegee is the trusted solution. Edged with rubber, the squeegee glides along effortlessly above the carpet, creating static electricity that draws out the hair and fur from the carpet. You won’t believe how much hair will come out!

Hack Number Five: Use Packing Tape of Lint Roller as Duster

This hack is a no-brainer! Usually when cleaning we tend to ignore our lampshades, inside of drawers, speakers, and other places with small crevices or fabric. They’re also extremely difficult to approach with just a regular duster. That is where tape or a lint roller come in handy. A strong adhesive grabs even the smaller first from fabric and small crevices. Just press the adhesive into the service and pull back reveal all the dirt, crumbs, and grime. It really is that easy!

We hope these easy, yet useful cleaning hacks save you time and give you some much-needed relaxation! Are you looking to relax more this spring and summer and focus on the things that bring you joy, like time spent outside or making memories with your loved ones? Then give us a call! Dura-Shine Clean is truly passionate not only about cleaning but about our clients reclaiming their valuable time!

Great, simple household cleaning solutions you can make yourself

Dura-Shine Clean Marketing - Friday, July 31, 2015
Whether you are a young parent, a caretaker, or have a family member with severe reactions to home cleaning products, it's always best to avoid harsh chemical products in everyday life. According the Organic Consumer's Association In 2000, cleaning products were responsible for nearly 10% of all toxic exposures reported to U.S. Poison Control Centers, accounting for 206,636 calls. Of these, 120,434 exposures involved children under six, who can swallow or spill cleaners stored or left open inside the home.

As the number one cleaning company in the Tri-Cities, we use great cleaning products that are safe for the home and safe for people to use. We require integrity in both our cleaning practices as well as our cleaning products. Some of these mix-it yourself cleaners work wonders and only require a couple of simple ingredients  like baking soda, vinegar, even lime for that fresh clean aroma.

Are you looking to make your own all-natural safe-to-use products? Follow some of these well-known recipes for convenience and ease

THE GREAT ALL-PURPOSE CLEANER

We all need a great all-purpose cleaner for those instances we want to leave our surroundings looking great and smelling fresh. This one will do the trick. Just mix 4 tablespoons of baking soda and 1 quart of warm water and voila! Pour combination into a sponge and wipe down surfaces like kitchen counters, bathroom sinks and tubs, inside your refrigerator, any appliances you may have, and other easy to clean up surfaces.

GREASE CLEANER
Need to scrub down those crusty, grimy oven hoods and grills and leave them like (almost) new? Then try this easy to make grease cleaner. All you have to do is mix 1/2 cup sudsy ammonia with enough water to fill a one-gallon jug or container. Ammonia acts almost like a detergent in removing tough grime. Use by dipping a sponge in the solution and and wiping or scrubbing over the surface.

GLASS CLEANER
Need something to clean that mirror or glass window full of little sticky fingerprints or dust? Then use this easy to make solution for cleaning glass surfaces. Mix the ingredients in a spray bottle for easy application. You can store it inside the bottle as well. Spray on a paper towel or soft cloth, then on the glass.

Ingredients
• 2 cups water
• 1/2 cup white or cider vinegar
• 1/4 cup rubbing alcohol (70% concentration)

NATURAL STONE CLEANER

If you're looking for a great cleaner for natural stone countertops, like marble and granite, this one should do the trick. Get two cups of warm water and mix in a drop or two of soft dishwashing liquid. Dip the sponge in and wash over the surface. Rinse completely to remove any soapy residue. It is recommended to give a final dry touch up with a soft cloth as water marks can often show up. As a warning, never use acidic cleaners on natural stone.

Safe and Natural Residential and Commercial Cleaning Tri-Cities, WA

Dura-Shine Clean Marketing - Monday, September 08, 2014

As the leading cleaning company in the Tri-Cities, WA our team at Dura-Shine Clean is committed to sustainability, green living and healthy families. We believe there are too many people using toxic ingredients in their cleaning products. Our commitment to sustainability means we use eco-friendly and non-toxic cleaning products that are both good to the environment and safe for our clients. Homeowners, especially families with young children worry about what is being used to clean their home. Business owners also want to maintain safe facilities for their clients and their employees. We also deeply care about the safety of our cleaning team.

Eco-friendly and safe cleaning products like Procter & Gamble and Spartan Chemical source only the safest components in their products. What we appreciate about the products we use is that both Procter & Gamble and Spartan Chemicals provide Safety Data sheets detailing the safety rating on every product they make. This ensures that cleaners who buy their line of eco-friendly household cleaners have the necessary information at hand to make a safe purchase for their clients.

According to environmental experts, the average household contains 62 toxic chemicals (source). Run-of-the-mill household cleaners contain aggressive chemicals like ammonia, sodium hydroxide, and 2-butoxyethanol, which appears in popular multi purpose cleaners. These chemicals can appear in window washers, spot cleaners, oven cleaners and more.

They pose no risk in small amounts, but if used constantly overtime they may pose serious health risks. As for our cleaning process, one of the things we do is ensure that all windows remain open during cleaning so the air can circulate from the outside in, essentially reducing any harmful fumes that might be in the air.

Hiring professional cleaners means you don’t have to worry about what is in your cleaning products, we do the worrying for you. When we’re not there to lend a hand, however, these safe and all-natural cleaning solutions and green cleaning tips we’ll get the job done in the safest way possible:

1) Glass and Mirror Cleaning

Commercial polishing agents and window cleaners contain ammonia. It’s a powerful irritant, and those with constant exposure to ammonia (when inhaled) have higher risk of developing chronic bronchitis and asthma. This is especially harmful to the elderly and people with asthma. Instead of window cleaners use 4 tablespoons of lemon juice mixed with half a gallon of water. Alternatively, use some rubbing alcohol and witch hazel.

2) Furniture Shine

Furniture polishing cleaners are made up of petroleum distillates and solvents, both of which are hazardous when ingested. Be wary of keeping these around the house if you have young children. A good substitute is a mix of two parts olive oil with one part lemon juice and rub it against furniture using a soft fiber cloth.

3) Oven and Bathroom Cleaners, and Mildew Removers

Some of these cleaners contain chlorine or sodium hydroxide. Chlorine can be a respiratory irritant at an acute level, and can be a serious thyroid disrupter (source). Sodium Hydroxide is corrosive and can cause serious burns. Instead use baking soda or vinegar to clean things like toilet bowls or remove mildew and clean grime.

To learn more about how we clean give us a call at (509) 543-9608. Let Dura-Shine Clean’s knowledgeable and expert cleaning staff come in and give your home a thorough, all-inclusive clean. We’re the leading commercial and residential cleaning company in Richland, Kennewick, Pasco, West Richland and surrounding areas.

Deep cleaning in the summer

Dura-Shine Clean Marketing - Monday, June 30, 2014

Here at Dura-Shine Clean, we love to make you sparkle! But did you know that cleaning is much more than aesthetically pleasing? Cleaning helps keep your home and your office germfree. We also love summer! Spring and early summer are the ideal seasons to shake off the vestiges of winter, and remove all the dust, germs, and bacteria that have built up during the cold months of the year. Think of it as your home’s New Year resolution. It’s a time for rejuvenation, refocusing and making new goals. Your home and office need that as well. Our Top-to-Bottom Deluxe Package is perfect for a thorough Spring cleaning. We focus on details routinely ignored in a regular house cleaning, like hard-to-clean spaces, or spaces in a home that are not subject to the wear and tear of daily activity.

What is Spring Cleaning?

Historically, people kept their homes shut tight during cold winter months. They heated and lighted their homes with coal, wood, oil and candles. When warm weather finally came, it was a welcome opportunity to open the windows and doors, and freshen up a home that had become murky and noxious through winter. On the first warm, dry day of the season, the whole family would pitch in to sweep, wipe down, shine, and scrub off all the wax and the ashes that had seeped into walls and furniture.

It may be true we no longer heat our modern homes with coal and wood, but winter is peak flu season. A deep cleaning helps you disinfect surfaces from germs, microbes, dust, and stains. We believe in healthy homes and happy, active families. If you’re looking to spring clean your home make sure the stage is set for a thorough cleaning. To prep your home for a deep top-down cleaning, spend a day or two uncluttering your home, organizing, and donating unwanted items. This will clear up space and facilitate the cleaning process for when the cleaners arrive at your door.

With our Top-to-Bottom Deluxe Package, we’ll bring in two members of our trained, expert cleaning staff to clean everything from wood trim work, baseboards, light switches, drapes, blinds, shades, ceiling fans, light fixtures, doors and door handles, tops of refrigerators, furniture, and cabinets. Early summer is also a good time to clean carpets to preserve indoor air quality, since carpets can easily soak up contaminants. Even surfaces and spaces that look clean may be wrought with pathogens.

A clean home is glowing with health and shine. Let Dura-Shine Clean’s knowledgeable and expert cleaning staff come in and give your home a thorough, all-inclusive clean.Your home or office space will be left spotless clean. Work and Family Balance

Dura-Shine Clean Marketing - Monday, April 28, 2014

BALANCE WORK AND YOUR FAMILY LIFE

Are you worn out trying to succeed at work while wrangling responsibilities at home? Try these ideas for creating strategies to help you balance work and family life.

Decide what you want. Think about what you really want from life for you and your family. How does your job fit into that? Are you working for self-fulfillment or merely for the paycheck?

Decide what’s important. Based on your values, figure out which tasks are absolutely essential and which are less so. Set priorities for deciding what works. If spending time with your family during your Sunday is important, consider utilizing a housecleaning service to tackle the day-to-day chores so you can focus on your family.

Transition between the two worlds. It usually takes 15-20 minutes to shift gears from work to family. Clear your head on the way home by listening to music as you commute, or try mediating or reading if you utilize public transportation. Once home, take a 15-minute break to change clothes and make the complete shift.

Be realistic. There is always more to do than time available, so figure out what you can and can’t do. You may need to adjust your expectations of both work life and your home life.
