Everybody who meets the Dura-Shine Clean team, knows we love giving back to our community and we love being involved in events that uplift the Tri-Cities and the people that live here. Last year we donated approximately $32,000 in sponsorships, donations, scholarships, and in-kind giving. We also volunteer in the community and lend our time and skills to various boards. We love to position ourselves as a community resource, especially since this community has given us so much and allowed us to grow. This summer for us is all about Sports and Social Media. Our company culture embraces volunteerism and community involvement.
This summer, we were the Premier sponsor for the Pasco Chamber of Commerce’s annual Sagebrush Scramble Golf Tournament at Sun Willows golf course. As residents and business owners in Pasco, we love to support our local businesses through partnerships. We truly believe in the saying that a rising tide lifts all boats, and the success of one means success for all. Plus, who doesn’t love to play some nice golf? We do! And the best businesses decisions are made out on the green.
We’ve strived to be very supportive of the Pasco Chamber as they have been of us. It’s been our third year sponsoring the Sagebrush Scramble, and every time we want to make sure people have a great time and have a reason to come back next year.
This summer, we’re also the Social Media Sponsors for the Tri-City Dust Devils at Gesa Stadium. Every Tuesday we host contests, trivia, and giveaways on our Facebook Page and for the people that attend the games. Last week we encouraged our Facebook Fans to post a selfie at the Tri-City Dust Devils game and use hashtag #durashineselfie. Every inning we offered some cool prize bags to select contest entries. Check back in with us on Facebook every Tuesday for a chance to win fun prizes.
You can probably tell we love Social Media, and we have some great loyal fans in the Tri-Cities! You can find Dura-Shine clean on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and even Google+. The Martinez family has profited from dirt, smudges and toilet bowl rings.
Dura-Shine Clean was founded in 1991 by Carlos Martinez and his mother, Concepcion. Now, the cleaning company has 60 employees, a fleet of vans and clients from Walla Walla to Yakima, the Tri-Cities to Moses Lake and Wenatchee. Believe it or not, we just wanted to make some extra cash,” Carlos said. “We asked each other, ‘What can we do to make some money?’ and thought, ‘Let’s clean some offices.’
” They went to work for a cleaning company and found their idea of clean didn’t match the firm’s. We looked around, found videos, books and talked to people in the industry,” he said. “We found some great mentors and friends in the industry to help us. It’s truly amazing how far we’ve come.”
On Wednesday, the Martinez family took another step and broke ground on a new $700,000 facility at 6216 W. Court St. in Pasco. When finished — the target is July 1 — it will replace Dura-Shine Clean’s facility near the Richland Airport. The Othello office, run by Concepcion Martinez, will remain open. The new Pasco building will be 3,500 square feet, just as the Richland location, but it will feature 2,500 square feet of office space, more than twice their leased space in Richland. It’s pretty tight,” Carlos said. “It will be nice to have our own facility and our own layout. With one acre to work with, we’ve laid out the building to allow for future growth. If we want to, we can add offices in the back end and lease them out. But first, we’ll take care of ourselves, our needs.” The Martinez family is confident of Dura-Shine Clean’s growth.
They opened their second office in Pasco in 2004, moved it to Richland three years later and look forward to returning to Pasco. Everyone needs to be clean, to work in a healthy environment,” he said. “We’ve worked with our clients to help them save some money. We’re experts in our industry and can offer options for keeping a clean facility and save a bit of money, too.” One way is by taking advantage of new cleaning technology. Dura-Shine Clean workers used to use upright, filter vacuums that puffed out a cloud of dust every time they were turned on.
They now use backpack vacuums with HEPA filters that allow workers to clean more square feet per hour and don’t blow dust at start up. Dust-trapping microfiber cloths have replaced feather dusters, which simply moved dirt. The cloths mean dusting needs to be done only twice a week instead of every day, Carlos said.
By using this new technology, we’re able to clean better and more quickly than we did 20 years ago,” he said. Dura-Shine Clean offers a variety of services including both commercial and construction cleaning, floor and carpet care, janitorial services and event cleaning. They also offer house-cleaning services in the Tri-Cities. If it’s dirty, we can probably clean it,” he said.

Headquarters Officials from the Pasco Chamber of Commerce and the Tri-Cities Regional Chamber of Commerce helped Dura-Shine Clean founders Concepcion Martinez and Carlos Martinez break ground in February on the company's new facility on Court Street in Pasco.
Concepcion Martinez and her sons, Carlos and Tino, started Dura-Shine Clean in 1993 in Othello to earn some extra cash. Through hard work, they have grown that side business into one of the most successful commercial and residential cleaning companies in the Mid-Columbia.
Now the company has started construction on a new 6,000-sq.-ft. facility in Pasco. General contractor Romm Construction will start building the facility at 2616 W. Court St. this month and Carlos Martinez said he anticipates moving in this summer. The new facility will replace the company’s current Tri-Cities’ offices at the Richland Airport. When we first opened our Tri-Cities office in 2004 it was near (the new facility’s location),” said Martinez. At that time, the company only had about a dozen employees. Now it boasts a staff of 46 that cleans about 5 million square feet of commercial space in the Tri-Cities.
Despite the growth, Martinez said the company maintains its family roots. We are still a small, family-owned business,” he said. “We are very community-oriented and that has contributed to our success. The Martinez matriarch, Concepcion Martinez, still runs the original Othello office, which will remain even after the new facility is complete. And Carlos and his brothers work in the company’s Tri-Cities offices, which does a large amount of commercial and industrial cleaning.
Martinez said the company has contracts with Toyota of Tri-Cities, HAPO Community Credit Union, REC Silicon, Columbia Basin Health, and last year obtained the cleaning contract for the Benton Franklin Fair & Rodeo. The company offers commercial, construction and residential cleaning, janitorial services, event cleaning and carpet care.
