Thanksgiving Dish & Drink Pairing

Marketing Team - Monday, November 21, 2016

When thinking about Thanksgiving, we have a lot of reasons to be thankful! Life, good health, living in a wonderful community, family, friends, the list could go on and on!  Here at Dura-Shine Clean, we know first-hand how crazy family dinners are, especially “BIG” family dinners like Thanksgiving.

Try something different this Thanksgiving by pair your drinks with dinner…. No matter what you drink, whether its wine, beer, cider or root beer floats, everything tastes better when paired properly.

Here is a chart you can follow to help you pair your meal. Let us know what your favorite pairings were!

Add A Washington Twist:
We are lucky to live in this area that has so many wines and craft beers! Have a true Washington Thanksgiving by pairing your food with local drinks instead!

After the Meal:
The worst part of big dinners is clean up!  No one likes to do the dishes, or clear the table. It’s funny to watch how fast the entire family can disappear or fall asleep at the exact moment that clean up starts.

It’s probably because no one wants to accept responsibility for the drink/food spills on Grandma’s lace table cloth or the white carpet!

For all stains the important thing is to get on it ASAP, the sooner the better, and remember to blot not rub or scrub (this only squishes the stain in worse). If the stains are pesky and refuse treatment, or if your home needs a thorough post-Thanksgiving clean, give us a call!

The Nightmare Before Halloween!

Marketing Team - Thursday, October 20, 2016

It was a few days before Halloween and we walked in to find a murder scene in our shop!  AAARRHHHH!!!  Ok…. not really, but it feels that way when you look at the mess that’s left over from carving pumpkins! No matter how hard you try to contain it (like a Dexter episode) that slime gets everywhere! Here are a few #DuraShineTips to help you contain your pumpkin massacre.

  1. 1. Use newspaper or cut open a large garbage bag and lay it flat onto your working surface. When you are finished carving all you need to do is roll/fold up the mess! Using garbage bags is nice because they prevent the “pumpkin guts” from seeping through and dirtying your workspace. However, newspaper is the “green” approach. When you’re finished you can just toss the entire mess into your green bin!
  2. 2. Keep a trash bag near each carver. This will limit the amount of walking to and from the trash can which, in turn, limits the amount of pumpkin spill accidents!
  3. 3. If you live somewhere rural or have a composter you can dispose of your guts outside, they make great compost or even a snack for the wildlife in our area. If spreading the guts outside isn’t an option and you don’t want the smell to knock you out before trash day, make sure to place your guts in a trash bag and tie it in a knot. And may the force be with you!

Extra Tip: Keep your kids entertained by hand them a pile of guts and have them pick out the seeds. Make a game out of it and see who can get the most clean seeds out! Once your kids have successfully picked out the pumpkin seeds, take them to the sink and rinse them off and follow the recipe below for some yummy pumpkin seeds.

-Have a safe and happy Halloween from everyone one here at Dura-Shine Clean!

Important Organization Ideas For Your Home

- Thursday, April 07, 2016
Ok, we know. Organizing can be a hassle, but it can also transform your home life if you have a system in place and follow it. Knowing what goes where is only the first part, but maintaining a system that works for you and your family is also integral to home keeping. At Dura-Shine clean we love improving and facilitating the home life balance many of our clients crave. Our main goal (apart from following our passion for cleaning) is to make sure our clients get to enjoy the lives they built while we do the cleaning. We want to present you with some really handy organizing tips that will forever change the way you look at your home space. Read on!

Dollar Store Stacking Bins Are your Best Friends
We love these super versatile stacking bins from the Dollar Store. These are perfect for organizing toiletries, bathroom supplies, and small miscellaneous items. These bins are handy for school, craft rooms and even office supplies. They nest for some compact storage solutions.

A systematic approach to organizing files and important paperwork
The amount of paperwork a household generates is staggering. From important announcements and agendas from school, to bills, to important tax information to health records and more. It’s important to have a file system that works for you. For things like family health records, school work, and yearly tax filings keep in a file bin, you can color code so it’s easier to decipher what exactly is inside each file. Moreover, don’t just dump papers in a filing system and forget about them forever. Use an actionable category system to sort items you have to read, those you have to file, those you have to respond to, and those that require immediate action. This can be kept near your desk or where you spend most of your time.

Organize your pantry

Pantries are a big part of every home — but you don’t have to have a big one to make it work for you and keep it organized and simplified. The rule of thumb is to toss canned goods, cereal and rice you haven’t used after a year, peanut butter after six months and pasta is good up to two years, then a it’s a good idea to toss it. Do you have some old magazine holders laying around? You can use these really versatile items to hold your aluminum foil, plastic wrap, and wax papers. You can even use them to easily stack your canned goods. Shoe organizers are also great for hanging it on the back of the pantry door to organize kid’s snacks, spize mixes, food packets, and other condiments.

Labels, labels everywhere

Labeling your storage and organization boxes is important part of the process. Knowing where everything is so you don’t have to dig through boxes of stuff to find that one small item. Label decorations by holiday or season as well as seasonal sporting goods for summer and winter as well as camping gear. These are things that you obviously don’t need throughout the year, but need handy when you’ve got an upcoming trip.

Donate!!
If you haven’t used an item in more than a year and don’t foresee yourself using it in the future, there is no reason to store it! Donate it it to your local shelter, or Goodwill where they will be better put to use. This can be toys and clothes your kids have outgrown, maternity clothes, furniture and more.

Your Tri-Cities, WA cleaners believe life is meant to be lived to your fullest and a happy home makes for a happy family. We hope you enjoy your Spring season, and if you need a little help you can always count on Dura-Shine Clean!

Five cleaning hacks that will change the way you clean

- Sunday, March 27, 2016
At Dura-Shine Clean, we LOVE cleaning! But, we know that is not the case for everybody — in fact, cleaning is a chore. It’s fun when it’s all done and you can sit back and soak all the cleanliness in. But we researched some awesome cleaning hacks that will make cleaning less of a chore and make it easier for everybody! These hacks come unhandy now that spring is here and you want to get your home ready for a new, fresh season full of family gatherings.

Hack Number One: Your Dishwasher is Your Best Friend

No, seriously. If you have one in your home, you can use your dishwasher to clean almost anything! You know those kid’s tour full of sticky finger residue? Pop them in there for a clean! Dirt brushes? Rain boots? Muddy garden tools? Dog toys? Yes, you can even clean those in there. Dishwashers are an extremely versatile appliance with some surprising uses you probably never even thought about. Make your life easier by mass cleaning regular household items that are well overdue for a clean. For handy list of things you can clean in your dishwasher, go here.

Hack Number Two: The Washing Machine and Stuffed Animal Cleaning Hack

This one might not come as much of a surprise, but it’s still extremely handy. If you have kids, then you probably have stuffed animals, rag dolls, and teddy bears…and then you have dust, and sticky baby fingers and mouths that just want to bite on things. It’s a recipe for, well…dirty stuffed animals and a reservoir of germs. In this case, place all you stuffed animals into a mesh bag and throw them into the washing machine on no-spin. Now you have germ-free almost brand new stuffed toys!

Hack Number Three: Clean Hard Water Stains with Vinegar

Have you ever tried to remove water stains? Not only are they an eye sore but they’re almost impossible to get rid of! The magic wand here is white vinegar! Just soak a few paper goals in white vinegar and place them over the water stains that appear on your faucet, your bathtub or other surfaces to remove the stains. Leave for about an hour and voila! All gone! It’s almost like magic.

Hack Number Four: The Carpet Squeegee Hack
Your carpet is a place of constant activity, and although running a good vacuum will remove a lot of the dust and fine particles in the surface, it will not remove hairs and fur that have tangled themselves into the carpet fibers. For that reason, a squeegee is the trusted solution. Edged with rubber, the squeegee glides along effortlessly above the carpet, creating static electricity that draws out the hair and fur from the carpet. You won’t believe how much hair will come out!

Hack Number Five: Use Packing Tape of Lint Roller as Duster

This hack is a no-brainer! Usually when cleaning we tend to ignore our lampshades, inside of drawers, speakers, and other places with small crevices or fabric. They’re also extremely difficult to approach with just a regular duster. That is where tape or a lint roller come in handy. A strong adhesive grabs even the smaller first from fabric and small crevices. Just press the adhesive into the service and pull back reveal all the dirt, crumbs, and grime. It really is that easy!

We hope these easy, yet useful cleaning hacks save you time and give you some much-needed relaxation! Are you looking to relax more this spring and summer and focus on the things that bring you joy, like time spent outside or making memories with your loved ones? Then give us a call! Dura-Shine Clean is truly passionate not only about cleaning but about our clients reclaiming their valuable time!
