August Recipe: Cheese Stuffed Burgers 




With summer winding down it's time to make those last grilling days count. Make your next cheeseburger memorable with a twist on a classic! 


  •  3 pounds ground beef chuck plus 2 teaspoons of Worcestershire sauce 
  • coarse salt 
  • ground pepper 
  • 4 ounces of cheddar cheese (or try blue cheese or brie) 
  • Oil, for grates 2 rolls or buns, split 
  • 2 cups packed baby spinach 
  • 2 Beefsteak tomatoes, cut into 8 slices 

Heat grill to medium-high. In a large bowl gently fold together beef, Worcestershire sauce, 1 tablespoon of salt, and 1 teaspoon of pepper. 


Form into 8 equal-sized mounds. Shape cheese into 8 equal-sized portions. Press a small well in the center of each beef mound. Place cheese in well; wrap beef around cheese, pinching to seal. Lightly oil grates. Place burgers the on grill; cover. Cook until grill marks are visible on the first side, usually 4 to 6 minutes. Turn burgers with a spatula; cook until grill marks are visible on the other side and the meat is just slightly pink in the middle. To serve, layer bottom roll halves with spinach, burgers, tomato, and any other condiments or toppings you desire. Top with bun, serve and enjoy! Recipe courtesy of marthastewart.com.

End of Summer Barbecues - Keep it Safe 


The end of summer frequently means last barbecues and your final chance to enjoy the warm weather before school starts and work ramps up again.  You don't want to spoil the fun with an accident at the grill, though. Keep these important safety tips in mind when preparing for your next barbecue. 

  • Read the instructions. 
  • Whether you're using a gas grill or one that burns charcoal, take time to read the owner's manual before starting your fire. 
  • Be sure you are following the manufacturer's safety guidelines. 
  • Always grill outdoors. 
  • This may seem elementary, but not everyone remembers the importance of proper ventilation and basic fire precautions. Your garage, or a tent, isn't a safe location for a grill. 
  • Keep the grill stable. Check the surface you're placing your grill on. You don't want it to tip over unexpectedly.
  • Also, take care to place it well away from the flow of people and pets, especially children. 
  • Clean the grill first. Scrape off any grease or fat that can make a fire difficult to control. 
  • Stay close by. Never leave your grill alone while you're talking, getting food, or enjoying yourself. 
  • Dispose of coals safely. Once you're finished, douse the hot coals thoroughly, cover the grill, and wait at least 24 hours before emptying it. 
  • Never store coals in paper, wood, or plastic containers.
